Seeing a Sign Empty Seeing a Sign

The Pentacle was not something that Joshua thought about often. The whole idea of magic was complicated enough for him to grasp, sometimes; the interplay between the Arcana really never came to mind. But after the obelisk fight Joshua had plenty of time to think about what had occurred. What went right, and what went wrong. Where he had succeeded, and where he had failed.
He thought about the Star, the way the Arcana were often labelled in discussions of theory. His soul was tied to the Lead Tower, and from that realm he gained command over Death and Matter. One Subtle, one Gross, and a line drawn from one and extended through the other would lead to Prime. From Prime, a line could be drawn to Forces—the other Arcanum he knew—and through Forces was Fate.
In the fight, Joshua had stopped two of the Ananke: Death and Prime. One Arcanum he knew. The other he did not.
Magic is symbolism, and abstract thought: two things that Joshua hates. He prefers the concrete, the tangible. But its been made all too clear since coming to Sacramento that he cannot get by on the concrete alone; so—just this once, he thinks—he opens himself up to that magical thinking, and makes a leap:
It is a sign. I am meant to learn Prime. And perhaps after that, Fate.
