The loss of a soul

Theo drove home thinking about what had just happened.
"You saved lives today" Animus had said. While the complement was accurate, Theo felt like he could have done more.
What troubled him most was seeing the shreds of purer matter that hade made up the soul of Blackfire. The information had been there to do something about that. He had known that one person had bodily dissappeared, That another had had thier soul drained. It was painfully apparent that the body had been split and divided between the stones. Why hadn't he seen the obvious implication. The information was there, he just hadn't thought it through and put it together. Now a soul was torn assunder, and Theo couldn't shake the feeling of guilt that he should have been able to see and do something about it.
