Antoinette answered the knock at the door. “Tilden!”

He put down his machine and gear and picked her up, swinging her around and giving her kisses. “Toni, doll! I missed you so much! Where have you been keeping yourself! It’s like you haven’t worked in public for months.” He put her down suspiciously, taking her all in. “Come on, level, have you been in rehab?” Antoinette slugged him in the arm. “Ow! What? Lindsey did it, why not you? OK, not rehab. But, you look… different. Did you do something to your skin?”

“No, Til.” She rolled her eyes trying to make him feel ridiculous, but the truth was this was exactly what she was worried about. Time to divert. “I took some time off to design and sew. Now my business partner suddenly booked a show for Lash at Club Asylum in a week and, well, here we are.”

“I know, I know! You mentioned Asylum over the phone! You know, I hear the owner is…”

Antoinette cut him off “an important business associate of my partners. So let’s not go there OK?” She shivered a little involuntarily. Keep this on track Antoinette. Things have changed.

Tilden walked in and started checking out the penthouse. “So, why are we only working nights? If we’re showing in 7 days, we need 7 full days Tone.”

“Ha. See, that’s where you’re wrong. ‘We’ are working nights together, and then I’ve got a room for you at the Citizen Hotel so you can work during the day while I handle my other meetings and stuff.”

“Other meetings?”

“Well, yeah, I mean, you didn’t think my partner was going to support all this with no effort on my part, did you?”

“Right. Let’s talk about this partner of yours… Quinton, isn’t it? What’s going on with you two?”

This she had to control. Plus, they really did have to get to work. “Oh no. You’re not tricking me. We have to get going here or else we’re totally fucked Tilden. Working now, talking later.”

Together, Antoinette and her tailor decided on the right 60 pieces to go in the show, which would account for 4 wardrobe changes on 15 models. Depending on the length of the runway, probably a 10-15 minute show. Short but sweet.

Now the scary part. Most of those pieces had to be created from scratch or patterns in the next 7 days. Plus sized for the models and refit. And Antoinette had a standard set design and music she used, but this being Club Asylum, she’d most likely kick it up a few notches, so that all needed to be rethought. Plus she needed to choose and order footwear and accessories for all the models, to make the line cohesive on the runway. And also she needed to make sure her favorite hair and make-up people were available. And, she should coordinate with Lady Dupree or someone at Asylum to have food available and of course open bar. And then there should probably be at least some press locally. Better start making some calls.

Oh, and let’s not forget a nightly lesson update from her au pair. So she could “think about what she should be learning” as she worked on all this…

::sigh::
