Collapsing Void Empty Collapsing Void

Post by Guest Sun Mar 22, 2009 2:19 am

West drifted through the haze of fatigue, wanting to sleep, but a restless mind kept him awake. The Throne Still Standing. He had spent his life preparing himself to take on the Seers... and the ones they worshiped. Yet, now, when he was almost ready, Fate was dealing from the bottom of the deck again.

He hadn't expected this, when he'd taken on another Apprentice. Awakened, full of power, potential, and the fiery resolve that would one day become an exceptional Arrow. That she was becoming more to him, personally, daily, was a painful mystery. That she might feel the same way only made it worse.

Pursuing his agenda would probably put him in serious danger; that, he could live with. If that pursuit put Ankh in danger, he wasn't sure he could live with it. Damned if I do, damned if I don't. That empty void he found himself in for so many years seemed harder and harder to find. The spells at Sac U that were cast to no effect, the knowledge that the sniper had spotted her -- all linked. It wasn't just fighting the Banishers, either; it was almost as if just being near her eroded away the void, making it harder and harder to find again.

If only she had 'heard' something else. Anything else. Talking about Seers did nothing but endanger her. Even if he wanted to talk about them, he wouldn't put her at risk like that. Without Wards, or Bans, it just wasn't safe. West knew she didn't understand, and it was a mistake to not explain it more fully. Better to err on the side of caution? With Seers, yes.

So he had ended up pushing her away, again. And all he could wonder, as he fell asleep, was the silly, childish hope that she would like the dress, and everything would be OK again.
