Circle of Arrows
After returning to the Circle of Creation, West gathers them in the training yard.
"So, we can split y'all up between the two First Talons," he said, then grinned, "Or we can see who's got what, one on one. Up to y'all."

Re: Circle of Arrows
Tug did his best to conceal the smile creeping up his face. Finally. It had only been a year and a half since he played his last down, but his world had changed so much since then, he sometimes felt like he was remembering someone else's life. The call to competition was like a lightning rod, commanding his full attention, and he felt like himself again, if only for a while.
"I vote one on one. I'm willing to go first." He begins his warm-up routine of cracking his neck, then shoulders, wrists, knuckles, ankles, toes...It's rather unsettling how much of his body is capable of popping, but that's just one of the things that ten years of playing one of the most brutal sports on Earth can do to your anatomy.

(( I'll run these in Sanctums as seperate threads, to not clutter this one up, and then we'll return here. I'll do as many simultaneous ones as you guys want, so if all 8 want to tee off, we'll do 4 seperate simultaneous threads ))

Re: Circle of Arrows
Orphan shrugs. "Either way's fine with me. I'd enjoy a chance to work on some teamwork, but since we're all on the same team, it might be good for all of us to get a sense of what everybody brings to the table. So maybe we should do a bit of that first."

"Tall, young, and silent," Joshua says, pointing to Brutus. "I assume you're Brutus, right? You called me on the phone. Show us what you can do."
He turns without waiting for a response, finding an open space on the floor while pulling out a gravity knife. He flicks it open, turns, and waits for Brutus.

Falx watches his brother and Orphan square up on each other and grins. ~This should be fun~ he thinks. He smiles and looks over at West. "Ah the disadvantages of modern warfare. When we face guys like those two." He motions to Tug and Orphan. "It's not the most pleasant thing in the world."

Teegan looks to Falx, "Well, whaddya say?" She notices obvious similarities between her and Falx and she thinks it would be an interesting fight.

Re: Circle of Arrows
Joshua waits by Brutus and Ankh, making sure his opponent heals up okay. He watches the other matches with an eye towards their capabilities and personal tactics. He also keeps a worried eye on Tug--Joshua was too busy with his own fight to be concerned with the bear that suddenly appeared in the Circle, but now that he's not pre-occupied he wants to be sure he can run should a big-ass ursa major just up and appear.

Re: Circle of Arrows
"Thanks," Tug says to both Orphan and Ankh for putting him back together. He moved with some tenderness, as the combination of Paradox and Orphan's fencing sword had left him with a reminder of this match that would have to heal naturally.
"Anybody got a towel? I got spare clothes in the truck, but between here and there..." He figured a great big naked man in front of a church might cause comment if there's any Sleepers out there. Of course, he could become a more aesthetically proportioned naked woman, which would probably not disturb anyone, but that would require Mana.

Re: Circle of Arrows
West congratulated the victors, and turned to watch the last pair. Being a firearms afficionado himself, he was interested to see how it played out. Even though he had been working on his hand-to-hand since Kai had left, it still wasn't his first passion.
Damn good thing they had Ankh, though.

Brutus comes around and groans a bit from his injuries. He waits as Ankh finishes before climbing to his feet. Trusting his fists when he could have used weapon was dumb. But now he knew more about these other Mages.
Brutus wraps his long coat around himself as he moves to collect his jeans. They were badly wrinkled but over all still intact. He pulls them back on as the last match continues.

"Absolutely," Joshua says, slapping Brutus on the back. "Nice comeback, and I have to say I was hell of surprised." He rubs his jaw, where Brutus' punch connected. "Got a good right hook, too." He casts a look at Tug, he who can become a bear. "We've got some good, strong Thyrsus here, it looks like."

"I'm was lacking in materials. Half my stuff is in my car." Brutus replies. "I didn't catch a lot of your fight but I saw you with that sword. I'm glad I wasn't up against you."
Brutus rubs his side absent minded-ly. He noticed his shirt was cut . He had a spare in the car but opted to wait until latter before changing.

Re: Circle of Arrows
Orphan glances at all the other combattants so far and says "From what I've seen, I think any given match between any of us could go either way. I was lucky to evade Hug's first try at grabbing me... I expected him to do that, given his size and build, and he still almost tagged me even though I saw it coming. If he'd gotten me, it might have been a completely different fight. "
Orphan appreciated Joshua's knife work, and couldn't help but wonder which of the two of them would come out on top of that fight, or who would win between Tug and Brutus.

Re: Circle of Arrows
Joshua nods, thinking on his own fight. "If Brutus had gotten me in a hold, I don't think I could have gotten out. He'd managed to get too much strength built up and I wouldn't have been able to counter it. Maybe I could have stabbed him enough to make him bleed out," Joshua shrugs, "But probably not. He probably could have choked me out."

Something beeps in Brutus' pocket. He pulls out his cell phone and frowns. "Busted my phone in the fight." he says with a grunt. The phone appears to flip open. the LCD screen on the outside is smashed bad and the aluminum case is dented in some places. Brutus checks his messages before clicking it off and slipping it back into his pocket. "I saw you go full bear form, man." Brutus says giving Tug an approving smile. "Wish I had that much skill, what other forms have you managed?"

Re: Circle of Arrows
Tug winces at seeing his brother shot before answering Brutus. His eyes never leave the match.
"So far? I've flown as an eagle, swam as a dolphin, run with a pack of wolves, became an oak tree once, that was really zen..." Tug appears wistful.
"You look to have the Honing rote down pat," he says, "I'm sure it won't be long until you get to try it. I could help you, when you're ready to learn. We'll talk about it." Tug finally turns from the fight to smile at Khalvin, then looks back.

"Nice work, everyone," West said. "The only comment I have is that, other than Sentinel Morris, none of you use magic to attack, only enhance. Try not to let your Sleeper preferences dominate too much."
"Adaptability is Strength -- Do Not Have Preferences," he quoted.
"I'm a shooter, like Falx and Teegan," West said, with a nod to the other two. "Any of you, or two of you, want to help me find out how well my hand to hand is coming along?"

"Brutus," Joshua says, and points at the pocket the cell phone went into. He waggles his fingers in a "give it here" gesture. He hones the Imago of the perfected phone in his mind, releasing the spell and letting the phone repair itself. He hands it back without a word, some of the dents remaining but the screen back in perfect condition.
He listens to West's assessment, and makes an interested noise in his throat. He doesn't quite dare to put his hand up, though, waiting to see if anyone else is more suicidal than he.

Brutus rakes the phone back and gestures his thanks. He listens to West and his wisdom before raising his hand. No doubt West was likely better then he let on. But Brutus wished to prove himself, if not with skill then through basic courage.
He glanced about at the others wondering if he would go it alone.

Teegan joins the others after she's been healed, smirking slightly. She wasn't trying to be cocky, it was the serene feeling that had washed over her after the chaos and adrenaline of battle had faded that made her smile. She congratulates the others on the results of their fights and settles into a chair amongst them enjoying the peaceful calm that follows victory.

"OK," West said, after Ankh healed the two Thyrsus, "that was good -- but you two should have worked as a team a bit more. One healing, one attacking, something along those lines. I do appreciate it, though," he added with a smile.
West grabbed a towel and wiped his face.
"So, we all got a pretty good idea of what's what. I want the two First Talons to figure out how to split you all up so that we can start getting ready for Granite Park."

Orphan nodded when he heard Tug say he used to play for the Raiders, finally realizing why the big man had seemed so familiar.
He listened to West's words attentively, absorbing the wisdom, and watched the fight between him, Tug and Brutus with a great deal of interest. Again, the importance of teamwork came forward. He hoped to train a lot with whichever teammates he ended up being assigned to, in order to address the teamwork issue.

Falx looks at every one and then Joshua. "I'll default to you because you are more the more senior First Talon. I think that two groups that can hold their own would be best. That way always all venues of attack are covered."

Re: Circle of Arrows
Tug congratulated West and sat down, forlorn over two consecutive losses. It had been two on one, they ought to have landed one blow, at least.
This is like being a Raider again.
The small consolation was that they were all on the same team; he was glad to have someone as skilled as the Magister running the show, and looked forward to learning more from him.
"It would make sense for Brutus and I to work separately, since our skill sets are so similar," he adds to Orphan and Falx's conversation.

Joshua thinks for a moment as he looks the group over. "I propose the following teams: Falx, Tug, and Orphan as Team One, and myself, Brutus, and Teegan for Team Two. This way each team has a specialist for firearms, hand weapons, and bare hand combat. I am assuming your abilities based upon what we've just seen, so if I have anyone pegged incorrectly please let me know."

"Seperately on small problems," West answered, "Together on large ones. Definitely together on the Granite Park situation. No one's getting left behind this time."

"It shouldn't take long," he says, both to Falx and West. "I should be able to rendesvouz with you at the park very shortly." He heads over to the gun racks, looking them over.
