Lessons in Darkness

Asa looked over at Ishani and smiled, turning on his side and reaching out a hand to stroke her cheek. Although he was good at reading people, he still never knew what was behind those eyes.

He was starting to understand, in the short time he had been a Deputy, little things. Like why she answered her phone the way she did, and her abruptness when she spoke or even texted him. He had never minded, but it was always good to understand.

Sometimes he had his doubts, that she saw him as a silly, prissy Ventrue, but she was here, and that's what mattered.

"You know," he said, still smiling as he let his fingers trace the line of her neck and down her collarbone, "this would be a lot more fun if you showed me how to see in the dark."

He moved closer and kissed her. "You know I won't mind practicing."
