About time, Vincent thought as he lounged at his modern apartment, sorting through all the photos he had taken for the story. His MacBook was open on his glass coffee table and he had a fresh coffee in an expensive, oversized mug. His third cigarette that afternoon was burning down in the ash tray next, the smoke wafting through to the open balcony window and into the city's smog.

He'd been with the Bee for nearly three years with only a small number of pieces being actually submitted, and he was frustrated beyond belief, especially since she'd left. Sighing long and hard, Vincent rested his head back on his couch and rubbed his neck to ease out the knots building there. As he did, he watched the smoke rise and circle above him. At some point, his eyes closed for a moment and he dreamt.

He stood in the dim light of a dying fire, the shadows around him sillueted and seated, watching him closely. Removing his hat, he glared at each shadow one by one, and smiled.

He growled and a million years of frustration boiled up. The growl went on and the shadows nodded their approval. He looked to the sky and saw her watching, fat and happy. It filled him with pride, and he howled.

A million years of glory came forth, and the shadows fought with passion and zeal.

Vincent awoke, his eyes flickering open. His cigarette has expired and his coffee is cold. His photos stare at him and his heart is filled with a renewed vigour as he sets to completing his project.
