To Learn Chinese

Ankh gets home from her trip to the spa and bounces into the house.
"West? Kai?"
Not hearing a response, she assumes she is alone and makes her way to the kitchen. Grabbing a V8 out of the fridge, she opens it and heads for her room. She may not sleep here anymore, but her computer still resides here.
Taking a swig of the drink, she sets it down on the desk and wakes up her monitor by moving the mouse around as she sits. As soon as the monitor comes to life, she gets on the net. She takes a few minutes to find the site she is looking for, then begins to scroll down the menu on the screen.
The book Kai had given her is written in Chinese and while she is sure she could sit and puzzle through it given enough time, she would much rather just learn the whole language. Besides, maybe Kai spoke Chinese himself. They might be able to use some short phrases as code words, if one of them knew what they meant. It might come in handy.
Finding the language she is looking for, she clicks on the cart button, then the check-out button. Entering her information, she makes the request for an over night delivery and sends in the payment. Sighing in satisfaction, she leans back in her chair.
"Happy Birthday, Maxine." She says quietly to herself, a small tear running down her cheek as she finds herself staring at a picture of her parents on the wall.
Sniffing and wiping the tear away, Ankh grabs the book off her desk and her drink and settles herself on the bed. She sighs and opens the book, preparing herself for a long afternoon of reading. Well, at least until West gets home.
