Joshua sat with the phone book in his lap, back straight. He looked at the cover, and with a sigh, he allowed himself to sprawl out a bit, to relax. Just this once.
Flipping the pages, he began looking through the business listings idly. He needed a job. He needed cash money, cold and hard, because the trek from Pennsylvania had depleted him. He had thought maybe he’d be able to get by without a job, but after those stone bastards had destroyed his weapons…
He couldn’t just make everything he needed. Some things needed to be bought. That meant money. That meant work. That meant interviews, paperwork, identity checks—unless he found someone willing to pay cash, under the table, no questions asked. Like that’s not going to raise a few eyebrows, he wondered morosely. Christ Almighty, what a chore. Joshua had never held a job, had never really been a part of Sleeper life at all; what could he even do? What was he capable of?
Joshua thought about that for a moment, then began flipping through the phone book, looking. Masons… Ironworks… Repair shops…
